Cotton Wick

The wick size will depend on the size of the jar that you are choosing. The cotton wick is recommended as it is easy and convenient to burn.

Essential Oils

You can use essential oils to add scent to your beeswax candles. Essential oils will enhance the scent of your candle and make the scent last much longer. Some of the best essential oils recommended for homemade beeswax candles include rosemary, lavender, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, orange, pine, marjoram, etc. You can experiment with different essential oils as well in your beeswax candle. If you want, you can leave your candles unscented.

Instructions for Making a Beeswax Candle

Step 1- Placing The Wick.

The first step is to measure the wick. Keep the height of your wick taller than the jar. Secure the wick by sticking tape on one end in the jar and tape the other end to a pencil or pen. The wick should be secured at the center of the jar.

Wrap the wick around the pencil or pen until it can be placed on the rim of the jar. The main purpose is to keep the wick straight after putting the wax in it. Also, a straight wick will ensure the candle is burned properly.

Step 2- Boiling Waxes

Take a saucepan (you can also use a double boiler) and melt the coconut wax and beeswax together. You can also use a candle pitcher. It works similarly to a double boiler. You just need to add some water to the bottom of the pitcher to melt the wax.

Melt the waxes on low or medium flame and keep on stirring until both waxes are completely melted. There is no need to boil the wax. You just need to keep stirring until it is completely melted and ready to use for further process.

You can also use bees wax candle and coconut oil. If you are using coconut oil, melt the beeswax, turn off the flame, add coconut oil, and stir well to mix the coconut oil in the melted beeswax properly.

Step 3- Adding Essential Oils.

Pour the wax into the jar with a wick. Make sure that the wick remains straight. While pouring the wax, make sure not to drop it, as it is difficult to clean beeswax. Let the wax cool a bit, and then add essential oils to it. You can add one teaspoon of essential oils to it. Or you can add essential oils as per your wish. Depending on your preferred scent, you can select any essential oil to add to your wax.

Step 4- Cooling Down

Leave the mixture to cool down and harden. Once it's hardened, you can trim the wick accordingly to about 1/2 inch. The mixture might take hours to cool down completely and become hard. It is recommended to leave it for 24 hours before using it to light.

Step 5- Light It Up.

Your handmade scented beeswax candle with essential oils is ready. If you do not want to add essential oils, you can skip adding them, and all the above steps must be followed similarly. Light up your beeswax candle and enjoy the aroma around you.

Is it necessary to add coconut oil to a beeswax candle?

There are certain potentially good reasons why you should add coconut oil or coconut wax to a beeswax candle. Using coconut wax helps eliminate the issue of tunneling and helps beeswax burn more consistently. Secondly, using coconut oil in beeswax candles will help further boost the scent of essential oils. It will also help in reducing wastage achieved after burning candles.
